RRD was started back in 2004, with a mission to help businesses and organizations deal with their old computer equipment. We are a small business with a small core of hard working individuals; we handle jobs with just a few computers to removing over 9 tons of equipment for a large area insurance company when they closed a Hartford office. We deal with computer related equipment only and are not distracted with appliances, tires, light bulbs, etc.
For the majority of our customers, we pickup at their site, with equipment located in multiple locations in a building, or in multiple buildings. We use our trucks and our employees and we are fully insured.
Security - This we believe is our most important service. We check each item for media (Hard drives, CDs, DVDs, tapes, paper, labels, etc). If any media is found, it is removed, and returned or destroyed. Hard Drives are wiped in accordance with NIST-800-88 guidelines (see Data Destruction tab for more detail). The owner of RRD, is in charge of checking each item for media, wiping hard drives and destroying media, this is how important we believe this service is.
The Environment - For items that we cannot find reuse for, we downstream them to our recycling partners located here in the Northeast. Our partners adhere to a zero landfill policy. We deman Computers and Servers and the components are sent to our partner who is R2 certified. Monitors and TVs are a whole different matter they contain lead or mercury. We ship these intact to our partner who is e-Stewards and R2 certified. They have setup the processes and monitoring to protect their employees and the environment. Printers and other computer related items are also sent to this partner.
Cost – Every item we receive we try to find a reuse for, whether it is as a whole or for its parts. If we find a market for it, it is then tested and sold. This helps us cover our cost for pickup, auditing, data destruction, and recycling. For most of our customers, and especially repeat customers we are able to do the job for no charge. We do charge if the job is small and the items have no value or if a majority of the items are monitors and TVs. We do pay to have monitors and TVs properly recycled.
We provide our customers with a complete listing, detailing each item with serial numbers, that we received. We also provide a Certificate of Compliance detailing, that all the hard drives were wiped.
